An Air Mobility Command C-130 Hercules deployed from the Texas Air National Guard lifts off April 21, 2013, from the 386th Air Expeditionary Wing, Southwest Asia. The C-130 Hercules primarily performs the tactical portion of the airlift mission. The Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer USS Decatur (DDG 73) returns to homeport San Diego, April 19, after completing an eight-month, ballistic missile defense deployment to the 5th and 7th Fleet areas of operation. While operating in the Arabian Gulf, the ship and her boarding team conducted 88 "approach-and-visit" operations that helped strengthen U.S. Navy ties with local mariners. Anderson Air Force Base, Guam, Anderson Air Force Base, Guam, Guam - Staff Sgt. Owen I. Wood leads his Marines in a raid April 8 during final field exercises on Andersen South during Exercise Guahan Shield. The exercises consisted mainly of raids and patrols in and around abandoned housing areas and the surrounding jungle, in which logistics Marines went toe-to-toe with Infantrymen. Guahan Shield will facilitate multiservice engagements, set conditions for bilateral and multilateral training opportunities, and support rapid response to potential theatre crises and contingency operations in the Asia-Pacific region. The logistics Marines are part of Combat Logistics Detachment 39, 9th Engineer Support Battalion, 3rd Marine Logistics Group, III Marine Expeditionary Force. Wood is a Platoon Sgt. with Company L, 3rd Battalion, 6th Marine Regiment, which is currently assigned to 4th Marine Regiment, 3rd Marine Division, III MEF under the unit deployment program.

RANGE 10, Okinawa, Japan - A reconnaissance man engages unknown-distance targets with an M249 squad automatic weapon March 25 at Range 10 near Camp Schwab during weapons familiarization and sustainment training. Marines trained with a variety of weapons during different firing scenarios, along with conducting immediate and remedial action drills designed to train the Marines to respond instinctively to firing stoppages or weapons malfunctions. The reconnaissance man is with 3rd Reconnaissance Battalion, 3rd Marine Division, III Marine Expeditionary Force.
