DAR ES SALAAM, Tanzania (June 23, 2012) High Speed Vessel Swift (HSV 2) arrives in Dar Es Salaam for a port visit to support Africa Partnership Station 2012. Africa Partnership Station is an international security cooperation initiative, facilitated by Commander, U.S. Naval Forces Africa, aimed at strengthening global maritime partnerships through training and collaborative activities in order to improve maritime safety and security in Africa. Fort Carson Soldiers, assigned to 52nd and 4th Engineer Battalions, assist efforts to contain the Waldo Canyon Fire at the U.S. Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colo. The engineers used bulldozers and support vehicles to create strips of cleared earth called firebreaks, ranging from eight to 100-feet wide, to stop the wildfire's progress.

Theodore Kavich, a fire team leader with 3rd platoon, Company G., Battalion Landing Team 2nd Battalion, 1st Marines, 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit, directs his fire team’s fields of fire during a response to contact drill here, June 30. Kavich, a 20-year-old from Pasadena, Calif., is deployed with the 31st MEU to Australia in support of Exercise Hamel 2012, the multi-national training evolution between the U.S. Marines and Australian and New Zealand Armies. Black Sea Rotational Force

Lance Corporal Elias Gobble a reconnaissance marine with Ground Combat Element, Black Sea Rotational Force 12, surveys the landing site after disembarking a Polish amphibious tractor prior to securing a beachhead during Exercise BALTOPS 2012, June 4. The Marines and sailors of BSRF-12 joined Lithuanian infantry soldiers in the first amphibious landing on Lithuanian soil in 40 years. BSRF-12 is Special-Purpose Marine Air-Ground Task Force training with 19 countries to facilitate interoperability with U.S. partner nations and promote regional stability while providing a limited crisis response capability in the Baltic Sea and Caucasus regions. BALTOPS 2012 aims to improve maritime security in the Baltic region through increased interoperability and cooperation amongst regional allies both on land and sea.
